The David Pipe trained Grangeclare Glory is a pretty decent hurdler and I was surprised when he was stepped up to three miles at Aintree last month where he clearly didn’t stay. That may have been a little surprising to Pipe because the gelding had won over two miles 6 in the race before that. A more likely factor in his disappointing performance was the really heavy going that day. Anyway, the horse is stepped back in both distance and class today and should surely be there at the death.

1.15 Ludlow

It is fair to say that Demachine was a smart novice chaser last season (second in Ascot Grade 2 final start). He performed a lot better than the result when a well-held fifth of 21 in an ultra-competitive Ladbrokes Trophy on his return at Newbury at the end of November and he should be able to resume winning ways here.

2.30 Taunton

Although Quoi De Neuf is 10lb higher for his success here in December it has to be said that it was a pretty facile victory that day. He won by just under 4 lengths and it could have been a lot more. I doubt the weight will stop him winning this.
