ST LEGER ANTEPOST
Phil has got a strong selection in this year’s renewal. First a few strong stats:
• 8/10 were rated 109+
• 8/10 winners were placed in either the Derby, Irish Derby, Queens Vase or Great Voltigeur
Phil is a massive fan of ADELAIDE RIVER. When he finished second behind Auguste Rodin in the Irish Derby, he Whatsapp-ed me saying that Seamie Heffernan didn’t try a leg. And it’s hard to disagree. Put Moore on Adelaide River and Seamie on August Rodin with their respective rides in that race and Ryan gets Adelaide River up for the win.
Phil then put Adelaide River up for the Grand Prix de Paris, where he finished second behind a good winner. But it was definitely the case that Ryan Moore didn’t use Adelaide River to his best effect. He’s a strong galloper who stays really well and in hindsight Ryan had to try and put them to the sword much further out. That form ties in with Ace Impact who we think is by far and away the best 3yo, and it’s levels above most of the runners in the St Leger field, especially with
the beating of Soul Sister. Then there is the stat that the last two winners of the St Leger both ran in the Grand Prix de Paris, indeed that is where they last run.
Currently rated 116, he’s crying out for the step-up in trip, the stable have won the race three times in the last 10 years and at 12-1 he’s simply to big for Phil to ignore.
1 point win ADELAIDE
RIVER @ 12-1 generally
