2:30pm Wetherby – 3m Handicap Chase
I’m backing two here: Montregard and Latenightrumble.
Montregard has taken well to fences, winning at Market Rasen before
finishing third at Taunton behind two subsequent winners now rated significantly higher. He’s run well fresh in the past, and the return to a left-handed track on better ground should suit. At 4/1 (William Hill), he’s a solid pick.
Latenightrumble (6/1 with bet365) thrives on softer ground and returns to the scene of his December course-and-distance win. He was only beaten 4L last time by a progressive rival despite giving away 16lbs.
The step back up to 3m is a positive, and the stable’s recent form is encouraging.
Others to note:
Champagnesuperover: Fell when going well last time but looks short at 11/4.
Sound And Fury: Blinkers are applied for the first time, but he needs to bounce back from a poor run.
4:13pm Wetherby – 2m3f+ Handicap Hurdle
Il Va De Soi (9/2 with bet365) is the selection. He travelled well last time but was outclassed by a quirky rival. With Alice Stevens back in the saddle and the possibility of improvement from his last run, he looks primed for a big handicap hurdle win.
Range is interesting reverting to hurdles after falls over fences, but his jumping remains a concern.
2:18pm Hereford – Chase
Simple Getaway (Nap) is the standout here. He was well-backed and narrowly beaten at Ludlow last week, giving the impression he’s ready to win soon. The extra distance today should suit, and despite carrying top weight, he has the size and form to justify favouritism. Anything above 6/4 is fair.
Olivia Kate keeps losing by jumping left on right-handed
tracks, so she’s one to watch if switched back to a left-handed course.
