3:45 pm Curragh – Raadoberg (Each-Way)
The Irish flat turf season kicks off with the feature race being the Irish Lincoln over a straight mile, and
Raadoberg (Each-Way) looks a strong contender at a decent price.
He won this race in 2022 from a 3 lb higher mark when trained by Johnny Murtagh and was third last year when with George Boughey. Now under the care of Raphael Freire, Raadoberg gets in off a 10 lb lower mark than last season — a clear signal that he’s very well treated by the handicapper.
Raadoberg has a solid
record fresh, and the forecast soft ground will suit him well. David Egan retains the ride and is in good form after three wins at Dundalk in the past ten days.
Take Heart (last year’s Glorious Goodwood winner) drops back in trip and could pose a threat if handling the ground. Rhythm King, who likes to race prominently, is drawn near Raadoberg and could provide a perfect tow into the race.
The last seven winners of the Irish Lincoln have all been returned at single-figure prices, which strengthens the case for Raadoberg at around 12/1.
Selection:
Raadoberg (Each-Way) – 12/1 with BoyleSports (6 places)
3:37 pm Chepstow – Shantwopointfive (Nap)
Shantwopointfive should relish the step back up to two-and-a-half miles after failing to cope
with the minimum trip when second to Ascending Lark at Exeter last time.
Sean Bowen retains the ride with his brother James still suspended, and the better ground should help him settle and finish stronger.
Blue Las is the obvious danger after finishing third in a Grade 2 at Sandown, but that form has been let down since. The first and second from that Sandown race have both
run poorly since, with That I’ll Do Moss losing at 1/10 last time out.
Shantwopointfive has been consistent this season and looks capable of progressing further under these ideal conditions. The 9/2 available looks fair value in a winnable contest.
Selection:
Shantwopointfive (Nap) – 9/2 with Bet365
4:47 pm
Chepstow – Kap Auteuil (Each-Way)
Kap Auteuil looks well-handicapped and could spring a surprise here. He was running a good race at Doncaster last time before a poor jump at a crucial moment ended his chances.
Rated in the low 130s at his best, Kap Auteuil has dropped to a double-figure mark and has been eased 4 lbs since his last run. That gives him a real chance against some exposed rivals.
The ground is expected to be a mix of good and good-to-soft — perfect for Kap Auteuil, who has performed well under similar conditions.
Ideallko is the obvious threat after a string of wins, but he’s been raised 19 lbs since winning at Warwick and was beaten last time after running twice within a week.
Toby Lawes has his string in good order, and Kap
Auteuil should give a strong account at a value price.
Selection:
Kap Auteuil (Each-Way) – 12/1 with Bet365 (3 places)
