3:20pm – Third Time Lucki (7/2 with William Hill)
This could be the ideal setup for Third Time Lucki to bounce back. He’s dropped 16lbs in the weights
since October and finally gets his preferred conditions: a fast surface and a right-handed track. His record going this way round is strong (3 wins, 3 places), and Fergal O’Brien’s yard is flying (32% strike rate recently). He disappointed in the Grand Annual on tacky ground, but this is a much easier task. He’s something of a cliff horse, but if he’s ever going to strike again, this looks the time.
✅ Verdict: Worth a chance under ideal conditions –
last chance saloon.
4:30pm – Northern Poet (Nap) (5/2 with bet365)
Credo is respected under a penalty, but Northern Poet looks the one to beat off a light weight. He’s two from two in Veterans’ events, winning well at Doncaster and Warwick on good ground. He’s only 4lbs higher for that double, has ground to suit again, and retains the services of James Best. With Credo having to give him 15lbs,
the value lies with the improving Gifford gelding.
✅ Verdict: On the upgrade in this sphere – confidently selected.

4:15pm – Magico (4/1 with bet365)
Magico has shown a solid level on the AW, but he ran well on turf over this course and distance last autumn, finishing third in a muddling race. He was gelded over the
winter and shaped with promise when second at Chelmsford this month. He’s up 3lbs but gets a great draw in stall 4, and first-time cheekpieces could sharpen him up. A sound surface suits, and he may now deliver on earlier potential.
✅ Verdict: Nicely drawn, unexposed type – leading claims.
