1.50pm Taunton - The Hardest Geezer
Today's card at Taunton has passed its morning inspection. However, we do have a yellow snow warning in the area, and the white stuff could arrive by mid-afternoon, so it might be wise to get your punting done early.
In our second race, I fancy THE HARDEST GEEZER (3/1) could make it third time lucky over fences. Philip Hobbs and Johnson White's six-year-old beat the highly-regarded Junker d'Allier in a bumper at Ayr last November, before being well-beaten behind Country Mile later in the spring.
Sean Houlihan's mount made inroads from off the pace to finish fourth behind Royal Infantry and another future winner on his
hurdles debut at Chepstow. Again, The Hardest Geezer pulled hard and was held up off the pace at Huntingdon the last day, but still finished his race off well to place fifth.
That race turned into a real sprint to the finish and the final flight was omitted, which shouldn't have suited this strong stayer. More testing conditions this afternoon should suit The Hardest Geezer, who has every chance of winning if able to
settle a little better.
1:45pm Taunton - Largy Force
Warren Greatrex will have been delighted with LARGY FORCE'S (4/1) chasing debut at Hereford just before Christmas. James Bowen's mount didn't get particularly high at many of her obstacles, but warmed to the task brilliantly and was gaining on the leading duo with every stride as she crossed the line a two-length third.
Largy Force won a good quality point-to-point before joining the Greatrex operation. Although she failed to win her bumper and any of her three starts over hurdles, Largy Force finished second to rivals rated 112 twice and didn't enjoy being asked to make the running when third on her sole handicap hurdle start.
Bowen was much more patient at Hereford, allowing Largy Force to find her
own rhythm before asking for an effort late on. With that run under her belt and a mere three-pound rise to contend with, she could hand Warren Greatrex his first winner of the New Year.
