Daily Tips - Sunday 12th January
12:25pm Punchestown - Coumeenoole 1pt win @ 6/1
It could be dangerous to take on Gavin Cromwell, following his four-timer at Fairyhouse on Saturday, but I'm keen to side with COUMEENOOLE
(6/1) in Sunday's opening Beginners Chase.
Paul Nolan splashed out £180k to purchase this Harzand gelding following an impressive point-to-point win in May. Nolan has got three maiden hurdle appearances into his recruit this autumn, with Coumeenoole placed third behind Apple's Of Bresil on debut before a pair of fourth-place finishes.
Conor
Stone-Walsh gave his mount a more positive ride at Fairyhouse last month and Coumeenoole produced his best performance, finishing just ten lengths adrift of Inn At The Park and only a neck behind the highly-touted Fishery Lane. Nolan's six-year-old now goes chasing with those three runs under his belt and I'm hoping to see Coumeenoole take to the larger obstacles immediately.
12:55pm Punchestown - Down Memory Lane 2pts win @ 5/2
For my NAP on Sunday, I'm taking Lecky Watson on with DOWN MEMORY LANE (5/2). Gordon Elliott's seven-year-old was lightly raced over hurdles and jumped neatly when beating stablemate King Of Kingsfield on his chasing debut at Navan.
Elliott's raider was backed against L'Eau Du Sud ahead of the Henry VIII Novices' Chase at Sandown, but proceeded to put on an error-strewn jumping display.
Mark Walsh's mount looked to be toiling on the approach to the second-last. Yet, Down Memory Lane kept on well over the final few furlongs to finish an eight-length third.
Walsh's mount can't possibly jump as badly around Punchestown as he did at Sandown. I'm confident that Down Memory Lane is the classiest horse in this contest and stepping up in trip should bring about further improvement.
2:25pm Punchestown - Kel Histoire 1.5pts win @ 3/1
Salvator Mundi's main competition will come from stablemate KEL HISTOIRE (3/1). Willie Mullins' recruit was snapped up following an impressive bumper win in France over Kimi De Mai, who went on to complete a hat-trick in French bumpers before also being sold to Willie Mullins.
Kel Histoire wasn't
noticeably quick through the air for most of his hurdle debut at Cork. Mark Walsh's mount sat behind the pacemaker throughout, with market rival Kilgame alongside him on the rail. Turning for home, the front two quickly dropped Kilgame and excellent leaps at the final two flights helped Kel Historie seal a comfortable victory.
Much like Salvator Mundi's maiden, the form of Kel Histoire's victory has hardly been franked, but the
manner in which he strode clear down the home straight was impressive. Mullins has sourced plenty of Graded winners from Alain Couetil's operation in France and deeper ground on Sunday should suit this talented son of Masked Marvel.
