1:35pm Catterick – Halpha Soleil
Halpha
Soleil (4/1) bids to continue Micky Hammond’s strong record in this race, having won it for the past two years. The eight-year-old has shown gradual improvement this season, closing the gap to Rattling Road at Newcastle last time (7 lengths behind) after a sluggish reappearance.
Now dropping to Class 4 company and eased 2lb to a mark of 100, he’s well-treated compared to his hurdle-winning form (off 95-99). With softer ground likely to
play to his strengths, this looks an ideal opportunity.
Recommendation: Halpha Soleil (Win) – 1.5 pts @ 10/3
1:45pm Lingfield – Fortunefavorsdbold
Christian Williams’ Fortunefavorsdbold (11/2) is an intriguing outsider. The mare started the year with back-to-back chase wins, including a heavy-ground victory here at Lingfield off 109. Though quiet mid-season, her recent
third at Chepstow (behind Katate Dori) signaled a return to form.
Now racing off a lenient 101 mark and reunited with Sean Bowen, who rode her to a course win last term, she could outrun her odds in a field where stablemate Always Busy dominates the market.
Recommendation: Fortunefavorsdbold (Win) – 1 pt @ 4/1
3:05pm Catterick – Cave Article (Nap)
Cave Article (9/4) steps up in trip after a commanding win over 3m2f at Sedgefield last time. The ex-pointers’ chasing career began with a modest effort at Wincanton, but he thrived when upped in distance, showing grit to fend off Old Page on soft ground.
Despite a 5lb rise, he remains unexposed over staying trips and benefits from Brian Hughes retaining the ride. With conditions in his
favour, the Williams/Hughes combo can strike again.
Recommendation: Cave Article (Win NAP) – 2 pts @ 2/1
