1:50pm Kempton – Kingston Pride (NAP)
I was very impressed with KINGSTON PRIDE’s hurdling debut win on good ground at Uttoxeter, but he failed to fire in the Grade 2 Winter Hurdle at
Sandown in December when sent off 6/4 favourite. That run is best ignored, as he didn’t go a yard on soft ground.
Conditions today are expected to be much more suitable, and the six-year-old holds entries in both the Turners and Albert Bartlett at the Festival – ambitious targets, but his trainer may have Aintree in mind instead.
Juventus De Brion has been beaten as a favourite in his last two starts and may
not be the most straightforward, while J J Moon and Jus De Citron both hold claims but lack the same level of potential.
Recommendation: Kingston Pride (NAP) – 2 pts win
2:20pm Kempton – Moulins Clermont (Each-Way)
Ideal Des Bordes and Eyed look the obvious market leaders for this 3m Handicap Chase, but there is plenty of value
elsewhere.
MOULINS CLERMONT returned from a 700-day layoff this season and has improved with each run. His runner-up effort at Newbury behind Herakles Westwood looks even better now that the winner has franked the form in the Berkshire Million and gone up 12lbs in the weights.
Gary Moore’s seven-year-old remains on the same mark despite his strong run and has been
given time to recover. With some firms offering three places on a seven-runner race, he looks an ideal each-way bet.
Recommendation: Moulins Clermont – 0.5 pts each-way
3:25pm Kempton – Issar d’Airy & Lounge Lizard
Flegmatik is a three-time course winner who looks well-handicapped but has a patchy
record in headgear, making him risky at short odds.
ISSAR D’AIRY ran an excellent second to Libberty Hunter at Cheltenham last time in first-time cheekpieces and promises to be even better over this trip. He is still lightly raced and remains well-treated off just 1lb higher. With Freddie Mitchell claiming 5lbs, he should go close.
Henry Daly’s
LOUNGE LIZARD is another to note, as he lost all chance by jumping out to his right at Cheltenham. The return to a right-handed track will be a big plus, and blinkers replace the visor this time, which could spark improvement.
Recommendations:
- Issar d’Airy – 1 pt win
- Lounge Lizard – 1 pt win
