🐎 Tanjen
🟢 Odds: ~ 7.00
🟢 Stake: ~ 1u EW
Reasoning:
Tim Easterby’s three-year-old filly is really starting to piece things together. She’s already shown her liking for the all-weather
with two wins from two starts on Tapeta, including a convincing course-and-distance success. That kind of record at this venue is always a big plus, especially in these busy handicaps.
Last time out she was beaten only half a length at Leicester on quick ground, having tried to make plenty of use of herself from the front. That run suggested she’s in good order and has the right attitude to dig in
when challenged. Dropping back in trip should suit her well, it’s the trip of both her career wins and although her current mark of 75 doesn’t leave her bags in hand, she looks capable of making the most of her strong recent form.
Another positive is her versatility: she’s shown pace to travel well and toughness to keep finding off the bridle. With Sean Kirrane back on board, who partnered her to success here
earlier in the month, the partnership is proven. Against more exposed types, Tanjen still has the profile of a filly who could squeeze out more improvement.

🐎 Howth
🟢 Odds: ~ 2.62
🟢 Stake: ~ 1.5u Win
Reasoning:
A gelding who once showed smart ability on the Flat for Aidan O’Brien, Howth has really
found his groove since switching fully to hurdles. He’s now won four of his five starts over timber, including a 17-length demolition job at Newton Abbot off 120, and most recently justified odds of 2-9 when readily accounting for Saratoga Lass over 2m1f. The key difference this season has been application, the tongue-tie has transformed him, with a 100% record in two runs wearing it, and he’s looked a much more straightforward, professional horse.
Ground versatility is a big asset: he’s effective on good and good to soft, and the return to a sharper 2m trip is no issue given the turn of foot he showed when clearing away at Newton Abbot. With Stan Sheppard (4 wins from 4 rides on him) maintaining the partnership, all the signals suggest he’s still on an upward curve. Carrying top weight (12st) asks for another step forward, but his profile screams progressive hurdler rather than a horse anchored by the
handicapper.
Stands a great chance to notch up another win here today.
