🐎 Sail Away
🟢 Odds: ~ 4.00
🟢 Stake: ~ 1.5u Win
Reasoning:
Sail Away is a well-established handicap chaser who has proven effectiveness at this track,
having run twice here with one win and one place to his name. His latest victory at Aintree in May (3m1f, good) came off a mark of 131, where he dictated the pace and stayed on strongly to beat a solid yardstick in Finn Lough. That effort confirmed two key points: he relishes a sound surface and benefits greatly from being able to bowl along up front.
The Skelton yard has an excellent record in this race, having won it last year, and
they excel with fresh horses — the break since May is no negative. Another bold front-running display can be expected.
At nine years old, he has plenty of experience (28 career starts, 24 over fences), and his strike-rate at staying trips is respectable (1 win, 2 places from 4 runs over 3m+). While his Class 3 record (1 win, 1 place from 9 attempts) shows he’s not always been dominant at this level, he comes here with confidence
restored after rediscovering form last time.
Market support isn’t great but I don’t always allow that to put me off.
