Yarmouth 19:05 EMPEROR SPIRIT 15/8 2pt win (Mainstream)

Yarmouth 19:05
EMPEROR SPIRIT looks a likely winner here. This 3yr old has had a decent start to his career, coming 2nd in a class 3 two starts ago, before being entered into a class 2 contest at Ascot for 41k.
That was a tough ask, but back down in class today and against a small field should suit nicely.
He is down to 6f, and breeding suggests this will be okay. As a front runner he will look to get on top and stay there, and with 2 furlongs less to cover up top than usual that may see him over the line.
2 starts ago at Ripon he lead over 2f out over the mile trip before being headed inside the final furlong. He battled gamely but was held in 2nd. That gives me more encouragement as the only other likely front runner is MEJTHAAM, who could be alongside us up top. If it does come down to a battle in the closing stages our selection has shown heart with that run at Ripon. That was over a longer distance too.
Leading in small fields is usually always an advantage, and with only 1 other likely challenger that gives you odds of 1/1, showing value at 15/8. I’m not saying the rest don’t have a chance, but they do look unlikely.
A step down in class and trip should both help today and running from the front will see us go well. Robert Havlin returns in the saddle and is in fantastic form.
