QIPAO is unbeaten in two starts, and heads to this class 1 with a good chance of staying unbeaten at big odds.
Mark Johnston has a good record with 2 year olds. 15.19% with all horses, yet 19.12% with 2yr olds running in non-handicap’s.
Ben Curtis retains the ride after riding both starts and often teams up with Mark Johnston, winning 20.17% of races from 238 in the last year.
QIPAO’s debut run came over 6f, up the stiff finish at Hamilton. Despite being her debut, she scored the 2nd highest speed rating across all previous races in the field. Not only that, the sharpness of the Hamilton course wouldn’t have brought out the best in her, as breeding suggests she goes better on galloping courses. That class 4 success on debut was impressive as she went clear inside the final 110yards, showing she can go that 1f further today.
Her next start was at Chelmsford in a class 5, running at 9st7 she went clear 1f out and kept on well.
Her breeding doesn’t excite me all too much. A few bred by Frankel here, but what they have shown so far hasn’t been fantastic.
The well bred horses will likely not be all too involved in the early pace. Our selection gunned up to the lead on her previous start, and was prominent on debut, so will likely make up the running. Over the distance at Newmarket it shows a positive p/l when leading the race, 13 winning from 53 (24.53%) achieving a £36.17 strike rate. Given a good ride in front, this horse can go the distance. Bred close to a 1m-9.4f listed placed horse; suggests a good engine, as does her previous
races.
She should be progressing further, pulling clear in easier company lto. Over to a firm ground and a galloping track will help, along with the extra furlong.
Providing no unexposed horses surprise with good performances we hold every chance.

ROSEABAD is my pick in this small group of 4 here.
Leading in a small field for me is key. When the field is large it’s hard to win from the front, due to the likelihood of a fast pace, with more potential front runners. Conversely, when the field is small, less are likely to make the running and the race can be ran at the front runners’ tempo.
I believe we have the leading horse here. His last 3 races have all been prominent runs, and in this small field I can see William Buick heading to the lead. Leaders win here 25.93% of the time (7-27), with a profit of £24.75 to £1 stakes.
Mark Johnston has got in the help of William Buick today, who has a fine record at this course. They don’t often work together, with 50 rides over the past year. For a big stable like the Johnston’s that’s not all too much.
ROSEABAD is one of two fillies in the field. Lto she ran at Ripon over 1m4f in class 2, where she scored a very high speed rating. She kept on strongly that day, and has been eased in class here (class 3), going up to 1m6f which should help.
Breeding suggests today’s galloping track will be no issue, and with the last jockey being Andrew Elliot; we have an upgrade today with Buick on board, likely to draw out further improvement on this 3yr old. He has ridden this horse before on debut when winning at Bath over 1m, so a little experience on this horse is a plus.
The call for Buick back on board shows good signs, and with a positive run up top we shouldn’t be caught.
