Ascot 16:10
JAWWAAL won lto at Doncaster, and seeks a hat trick today, of which I think he will achieve.
David Probert road an expertly timed ride lto. He didn’t even reach for his whip when held up off a slow pace over 5f, in today’s class. What surprises me is he is 1lb lower than his latest victory, and should get an easier trip this time round.
3 look set to gun to the lead, from the 3 middle stalls. This should cause a definite fast pace, and with a patient ride those in front should tire and be collected late by the back runners, ie the rest of the field.
The two other back runners along with us being TIS MARVELLOUS and MOUNTAIN PEAK. We had MOUNTAIN PEAK beat lto, and I expect we will do the same today. TIS MARVELLOUS has been inconsistent recently, and has opted to chase the pace in recent races. He is the oldest in the field and carries more weight than usual today. At a similar price to us I see no value in backing him, he is only getting older at 7 years of age.
M Dods allows David Probert the ride again, as they’ve only worked together once in the past year, and that being his last run.
A lot to like here at a fair price. A fast pace to run into, the added stiff finish is a massive plus along with no additional weight for last times win. Hat trick awaits.
York 19:00
COZICAN had a good debut run and could follow that up here at a good price.
The switch from a sharp course to a galloping is unknown, breeding suggests both are fine, but each horse is different. His debut was on a sharp course at Ripon, which is also undulating. He offered “no extra” late on, so the switch to a flat track will help stamina wise.
On debut this horse hits 4th spot on the speed ratings. Considering that was his first run improvement awaits and if taking to the conditions can run a big race.
Rowan Scott rides again, and breeding suggests the short 6 day rest period will help. The class another unknown, but at a price I really fancy our chances, with the likelihood of a big drift at BSP too.
The 2nd fav has jockey Sam James on for the first time, who has only won twice here across 40 rides, and has ridden 41 times for the trainer, winning just 3. This doesn’t look like a confident jockey chance on a horse who ran well here on debut. The trainer is also 1 win from 26 races here at York in the last year.
The fav has “seconditus” and is yet to win. That’s never a good sign as it shows a potential lack of willingness from the horse. After a good debut on the polytrack he is yet to follow up with a real good run.
Our selection is bred nicely, and costs the most in the field. Very interesting runner for Nigel Tinkler.
Weak field here, and I’m taking our chances here at a nice price.
