Goodwood 13:50
KOLISI is my pick in the first today.
William Haggas is profitable with 3yr olds at this course in handicaps, in this class with a 27.78% win rate and a 10.50p/l.
Tom Marquand has ridden the last two starts on this horse, most recently being eased towards the finish at Salisbury over 1m2f in a class 4.
Steps up to a class 2 today and enters into handicap for the first time. Trainer William Haggas also has a positive record in first time handicaps here.
Progression likely here, and having already won on softer ground; he looks to have a chance here.
A swift pace looks likely here, and with a ride just off the leaders I think we’ll get a good toe into the race.
Tom Marquand has been on before and should know the horse well. Bred for these distances and will be an interesting watch.
Goodwood 14:25
ONASSIS is my selection here, one who fits many trends.
A like a few here, but this one stands out with hitting almost all the trends of previous winners. 12/12 didn’t win lto, which remember HIGHFIELD PRINCESS. 11/12 aged 3-4yrs old, won between 2-4 times and won over atleast 7f. 10/12 officially rated 100+, 9/12 finished top 4 lto, 7/12 Irish bred. We fit all those trends.
Her last score was at Goodwood on the soft ground, where she was held up and kept on strongly. Interestingly, Hayley Turner has ridden her more prominently in the last 2 races after coming off a break. That’s not the usual tactics she applies, and I’m hoping she’ll go back to holding her up tomorrow.
Trainer Charlie Fellowes has won 2 from 4 in the past year, and 4 from 16 across 5 years with a healthy p/l to £1 stakes.
A real fit for the trends here, and I’m hoping history repeats itself with another solid effort at this C+D.
Goodwood 15:00
CHIMGAN put in a solid effort on debut when 1st of 10 at Nottingham. That came on good to soft and breeding suggests if it is slightly heavier he’ll handle it no problem.
Adam Kirby retains the ride after an incredible speed rating on debut. If you take into consideration he was a bit short of room over 2f out, it upgrades the performance that bit more.
Cilve Cox is in fantastic form, and when taking 2yr olds to this course and class in non handicaps he has won 37.50% of the time, with a p/l of 10.75. What makes this stay better is he has won the last 3, 15/2, 11/2, 11/4.
Another interesting angle is horses drawn in stall 1 have placed in the top 3 7 times in the last 12 runnings.
This one fits many trends, and I’m very much looking forward to this follow up debut.
Goodwood 15:35
CENTURY DREAM is my selection in the big one, and I have every right to tip this one to a service here on my final day here at Goodwood this week.
This horse has been very consistent recently, hitting some very impressive speed ratings. His best however came at Goodwood the last time we was here on the heavy ground, which wasn’t as heavy as made out. He raced in 2nd that day and made a challenge to win going away.
James Doyle returns back on board today after a 2 race absence, and knows how to get the best out of this horse.
For a race that doesn’t get a lot of old boys, it’s interesting to see this 7yr old competing here. 14/20 are won by 3-4yr olds, but with no many entries at older ages this one looks to have a great chance.
ORDER OF AUSTRALIA looks destined for the lead, and his stall 1 positions helps with that. However, only 1 winner from stall 1 in the last 15 runs. I’m not bothered about that anyway, I just want the lead as 3 of the 4 previous front runners here went on to win.
